FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

1.- If I have a Los Cabos destination wedding, will guests attend? (View Answer)
We have found that our wedding couples are surprised at the number of friends and family who are willing to travel to Los Cabos for destination weddings. You are under no obligation to foot the bill for your guests' travel or accommodation costs. If guests can't afford to attend your destination wedding, they will decline.
2.- Why having a destination wedding at Los Cabos? (View Answer)
Lots of reasons. The primary reasons couples choose a destination wedding are to save money, avoid the major hassles and details of planning a wedding at home, and of course to have a memorable and unique wedding that combines your special day with an exciting vacation for the entire wedding party!
3.- What is a destination wedding? (View Answer)
One of the most popular trends in honeymoon travel, destination weddings combines an ideal wedding location with an equally romantic honeymoon locale. Your destination wedding might be for just the two of you (also known as eloping) or you might include a group of friends and family.
4.- Do we send wedding announcements or invitations for our Los Cabos wedding? (View Answer)
If you can't imagine getting married without certain guests present, send out save-the-date cards at least six months before your destination wedding. Then you can save money by sending invitations only to those who will attend your wedding in Los Cabos and mail [or email] announcements to everyone else.
5.- Why get married with Los Cabos Weddings at Mexico? (View Answer)
Los Cabos Mexico is the ultimate tropical wedding and honeymoon destination, and our Wedding Coordinators can help you plan a wedding at Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo. We'll help you choose the right music, flowers, cake, officiant and photographer. We can help you book accommodations, events and activities for you and your guests. We'll even arrange for the marriage license and make sure you have the proper paperwork with you, so you can spend your time seeing the sights and having fun, not running around dealing with wedding details.
6.- Is my marriage in Mexico legal? (View Answer)
Marriages performed by ministers or priests (even Catholic Priests) are not legally binding in Mexico. They are the symbolic and spiritual part of your wedding celebration. Legal marriages in Mexico are called "Civil Ceremonies" and are conducted by a Judge residing in the locality of where you wish to get married.
7.- What are the legal requirements to marry in Mexico? (View Answer)
There are two types of weddings performed in Mexico: THE CIVIL WEDDING (Matrimonio Civil) and the NON-DENOMINATIONAL Ceremony. The Civil Ceremony changes your marital status from single to married. Your proof of marriage is recognized as legal throughout the world. A Spanish speaking Judge performs the civil ceremony. A translator will be present to translate the wedding vows you will exchange that are set by the State and cannot be changed. This can be compared to a ceremony performed by the Justice of the Peace in the United States or Canada. The other ceremony is the Non-Denominational or Symbolic Ceremony. This ceremony does not change your marital status here in Mexico or anywhere in the world. If you would like to perform the Civil Ceremony in your home state, either before or after your Cabo wedding, you may. Or you can choose to do both the Civil and the Non-Denominational Ceremony here in Mexico. For a Non-Denominational Ceremony, you may participate in the creation of your wedding vows or may choose from some of the Officiant's favorites. You may alter or embellish these vows in any way you like. You may write your own vows or include special poems, reading, songs, etc. If you need ideas or help with any of the words you want to say to each other, your Officiant will gladly assist you.
8.- Do we need to get our marriage license in our hometown before coming to Cabo? (View Answer)
No, all the legal paperwork is completed in Los Cabos, Mexico.
9.- When do we receive our marriage certificate? (View Answer)
You receive all of your completed documents immediately following the ceremony.
10.- How long is the ceremony? (View Answer)
The Civil Ceremony with the judge and translation is approximately 10 minutes. The ceremony can be between 10 and 20 minutes from the processional to the recessional, depending on whether you confirm a musician/singer, have other family members or friends participate in the ceremony and other such variables. The length of the Non-Denominational Ceremony depends on the vows, verses, readings selected by you and your Officiant.
11.- Can I get married at a church in Mexico? (View Answer)
To be married in a church in Mexico, you need to obtain documents from your parish at home and comply with the church's premarital procedures and marriage preparation programs. The professional wedding coordinators at Los Cabos Wedding can provide you with information about the required documents, church procedures and policies, and offer you support and direction before and during the wedding ceremony.
12.- What paperwork is needed for spiritual weddings at Los Cabos, and what type of marriage certificate is issued? (View Answer)
For the minister's ceremony you will only need picture ID showing your full names - preferably passports. However, the Wedding Certificate you'll receive from the minister only serves as recognition of a "spiritual union."
13.- Can we be married by a priest on the beach at Los Cabos? (View Answer)
The Catholic rules does not allow its priests to marry people outside of a physical church. This means that they cannot perform ceremonies at a beach or in a hotel.
14.- Can I bring my own minister or religious leader to perform the wedding ceremony at Los Cabos? (View Answer)
Of course. Our wedding planner will keep in close contact with the person performing your wedding ceremony, help them set up the ceremony area, and familiarize them with all of the details of your wedding day.
15.- How far in advance can we confirm our wedding? (View Answer)
Short notice and last minute weddings are welcome, providing your date is available with the judge and/or minister. There is only one judge in Cabo San Lucas to perform the civil ceremony, therefore, it is important to confirm his services as soon as possible. Depending on the size of your wedding and to ensure you have available the best professionals and locations, it is best to confirm the date as soon as you decide that Cabo San Lucas is your destination wedding choice. If it is a particularly “special” day, like Valentine’s Day, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve, or other major holiday, it is best to confirm as far in advance as possible. We confirm events up to 3 years in advance of the wedding date.
16.- What happens after we reserve our wedding date? (View Answer)
After reserving your wedding date, the next step is to reserve the location you choose for the wedding and/or wedding reception. We coordinate weddings at many different locations throughout Los Cabos, including beaches, churches and chapels, private villas, resorts, hotels, restaurants and even underwater. We have a Scuba Diving wedding for those that are certified divers. If you are not certified, we can arrange your certification to be completed with 3 days of training and classes. The next step is to decide on the details of your wedding such as Photography, Videography, Flowers, Music and Food and Beverage.
17.- Why do we need a wedding coordinator? (View Answer)
In most cases in the U.S. and Canada, you do not need a coordinator, unless it is a large-scale wedding. However, in Mexico or other foreign countries, it should be a priority to budget for a professional coordinator. The majority of people you will speak with at the various resorts are not trained as wedding coordinators. They are Sales Managers, Food and Beverage Managers, Assistant Managers, or just Sales, and have many other jobs than trying to meet your needs. The wedding business at most hotels in Los Cabos probably does not exceed 5% of their total convention business; therefore, the person you could be corresponding with may not be familiar with “weddings”. When you arrive for your wedding you may find things are not ordered or attended to as you thought they would be and the representative will not understand why you are upset. Remember, this is your wedding, one of the most important days of your life. Do you really want to leave this day to chance? Our business function is WEDDINGS.. We have no other jobs other than to see and meet your every need for this special event. We speak and understand English and weddings.
18.- How is the coordination fee determined? (View Answer)
Our fee is based on many factors: the size of the wedding, the amount of time we spend in planning before the wedding, the actual on-site coordination the day of the wedding, rehearsal and follow up, as well as any other special needs of the bride and her family.
19.- What does the coordination fee include? (View Answer)
We help you with the planning of the wedding from the beginning, i.e.: the selection of date, confirming the judge and/or Officiant are available as well as the location. We help you with the choice of flowers, music, and photography that is best suited to your wedding, as well as the video, food, beverage and wedding cake. We secure only professional and reliable vendors for the options you chose. We arrange the necessary documents, copy the visas and gather the paperwork from you. We translate the documents from English to Spanish and take the documentation to him. We assure that the appropriate personnel at the location you have chosen for your wedding ceremony and/or reception receives each and every one of your requests, and we ensure these are implemented. Depending on the size of the wedding we may arrive at the location several hours prior to the ceremony to once again make certain everything is as instructed. We are, of course, on-site for the actual ceremony. We remain on-site to orchestrate the planning, service of food and beverage items, and to keep things on schedule as well as remind the parties of their roles, while maintaining a peace and calmness among the wedding party. At the reception, we coordinate the florist, caterers, cake and champagne, band or DJ and all other vendors and stay until the end of the event. We take care of payment to all the vendors so you have as little stress as possible on your big day. We are there for the rehearsal, and any other special needs of the bridal couple and her family. We are in continuous contact with the resort as well as all other vendors significant to your wedding. The location you are getting married may have several other events happening on that same day. Their attention will be divided among their guests while OUR primary concern is YOUR wedding. This may include several different trips to the various managers to assure everything is as planned. We have coordinated weddings in Cabo for five years and we are aware of how much time and planning is involved to assure the event is successful and stress-free for the bride & groom, family and each and every guest that attends your magical day!.

We recommend at least two days prior to your wedding so you can relax from your flight and look and feel rested and refreshed for your special day. The general rule for a sunset wedding is at least one hour prior to sunset. This time may vary depending on the size and location of your wedding. This takes advantage of the flattering and diffused lighting conditions which is important for your wedding photos.
28.- What happens if it rains on our wedding day? (View Answer)
Well, the possibility of rain is minimal here in Baja California Sur, yet sometimes during our short rainy season (September and October) it can happen. There is always an alternate plan, so no worries. Getting ‘undercover’ so to speak is always part of the back-up plan.
29.- Should we have a sound system for our ceremony? (View Answer)
During an outdoor ceremony the sound does not carry as well as an indoor wedding due to the sounds of the ocean surf. Guests may not be able to hear the Officiant and especially the bride and groom. After spending a tremendous amount of time, energy and money to make sure your wedding day is perfect, it is disappointing for you and your guests if they can not hear anything during the ceremony. A sound system will solve this for you. We advise you confirm this system if you have a group of 20 or more guests attending the ceremony. This sound system is not to be confused with the microphone provided by the video-grapher, which is for video only and not for sound projection at the ceremony.
30.- Can the photographer shoot some photos in black and white? (View Answer)
The photographers shoot in a digital format and give you all of the photos burned at high resolution onto a DVD. From there, you are free to make copies as you so desire. Any photo lab or even the self service kiosks can turn your color photos into black and white.
31.- How long will it take to receive our photographs and video? (View Answer)
We will make every attempt to get your photos and video to you prior to your departure from Los Cabos however it can take up to one week. We will DHL the photos/CD/DVD to you for a minimal charge per package. The video takes a little longer as they require additional time to complete the editing process.

There is not a location in Los Cabos to rent wedding attire
33.- Is there a place to have my wedding dress pressed? (View Answer)
There is just one professional cleaner in Los Cabos, but the service is kind of expensive. We suggest you carry your dress with you on the plane, and as soon as you arrive to your hotel immediately hang it up to “fall out”.
34.- What are some Hispanic wedding traditions? (View Answer)
During the ceremony, thirteen gold coins (representing the groom’s dowry to the bride and his promise to support her) are carried in a box or tray and blessed by the priest, then passed back and forth between the hands of the bride and groom until they rest with the bride. A large rosary or white rope, called a lasso, is wound around the couple’s shoulders in a figure eight during the wedding ceremony, to symbolize their union. Sometimes an heirloom mantilla, a lightweight lace or silk scarf, is used in place of the lasso. Three wedding bouquets are used: One is carried by the bride, one is left at the altar in honor of the Virgin Mary, and the third is tossed at the ceremony.
